Susan (Soosi)'s Story
I have spent the last four years living and working in Hong Kong at an international school where I am an elementary school counselor. Ed spends six months of the school year here with me and the other four months he stays home and keeps things under control.
Both of us have enjoyed traveling since I have been here. I have been to Laos, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and a variety of places in China. My favorite two places are the Tibetan Plateau and Cambodia.
My daughter is married to a lovely man who is Italian and they live in northern Italy. He is a neurosurgeon and they are about to be first-time parents! I will travel there in February of 2010 to be with them when the little boy is born.
Ed and I have a 'slew' of grandchildren on his side of the family, ranging in age from 21 down to 2 years old. All live within a 70- mile range of Olympia.
My pastimes besides traveling and learning about cultures different from my own are reading, writing, and photography. I sadly gave up horses in order to come to Asia. I was unable to give up the companionship of a dog for very...Expand for more
long and have a great rescue dog from the Hong Kong Dog Rescue.
I have enjoyed getting back in touch with some of my elementary school friends and enjoyed traveling to Viet Nam with Donna Lormor last spring.
I have regretted missing the last two reunions .... one because it was the day my daughter got married, and the more recent one because I had to be in Hong Kong before the date of the reunion.
My greatest adventure besides leaving retirement and going to work in a private school in Hong Kong was riding behind Ed on his motorcycle on a three-day trip across the southwest as part of the Rolling Thunder group that went to Washington DC on Memorial Day 20 years ago....eventurally that led to me buying a Harley Davidson Fat Boy Classic which I loved but found I would rather be the passenger than the driver...Ed is so much more skilled than I am!
Our 20 years of marriage have proven that a dyed-in-the-wool Republican can live harmoniously with a bleeding-heart Democrat...especially when there are 7000 miles of ocean between them! Both of us have tempered our perspectives over those twenty years.
